What the Pentacles Mean to Me in a Reading

By Isabella Vale, Founder of Tarot Masters

The Pentacles have always felt like the deep breath I forget to take. They ground me. They speak in the language of slow steps, steady roots, and the things that grow when you show up with care.

Most people think of Pentacles as the suit of money, work, or physical things. And yes, they speak to all that. But in my readings, they often go deeper. They speak to worth. Not just financial, but energetic. Emotional. Spiritual.

When Pentacles show up, I know we are about to talk about the real stuff. What is being built. What is being protected. What is being carried that no longer needs to be.

When I See a Pentacle

To me, the Pentacles are about devotion. The daily kind. Not just to goals or success, but to the way you care for yourself, your space, your time. They ask,
“What are you tending?”
“What are you investing your energy into?”

They also ask, gently but clearly,
“Is it worth it?”
That’s not always an easy question. But it’s an important one.

When this suit appears, I often sense a message about sustainability. About pace. About remembering that building a beautiful life is not a sprint, but a rhythm.

A Few Cards I See Differently

Four of Pentacles – Holding On Too Tightly

This card is often seen as about hoarding or clinging. But for me, it’s more often about fear. The fear of loosening our grip on something that once made us feel safe.

When the Four of Pentacles shows up, I ask,
“What are you protecting, and why?”
Sometimes the card isn’t about money. It’s about emotion. It’s about self-protection. And it gently asks,
“Is this still serving you, or is it keeping you small?”

Seven of Pentacles – The Honest Check-In

I love this card deeply. The Seven of Pentacles is a moment of pause. Of reflection. You’ve planted something. You’ve shown up for it. Now what?

To me, this card is not just about patience. It’s about discernment.
“Do you still want this thing you’ve been growing?”
It’s a quiet invitation to realign, or to recommit.

Nine of Pentacles – Receiving Without Guilt

So many people see this card as success or independence. And yes, it is. But when I see the Nine of Pentacles, I often feel something deeper. Permission.

Permission to receive. To enjoy. To take up space in beauty and pleasure, without needing to prove you’ve earned it.

It asks,
“Can you allow yourself to feel full, without apology?”
That, to me, is the true magic of this card.

Earth as a Teacher

The Pentacles belong to the element of Earth. And Earth takes her time. She teaches in seasons. In compost and bloom. In slowness and cycles.

This suit reminds me to trust process over urgency. To find meaning in the ordinary. To nourish the roots before chasing the fruit.

It also speaks to boundaries. Structure. The quiet strength of being present in your own life.

Final Thoughts From My Reading Table

When I see Pentacles in a reading, I lean in. They may not sparkle like the Wands or stir emotions like the Cups, but they hold truth. The kind that lasts. The kind that builds homes, not just dreams.

They ask,
“Where is your energy going?”
“Is it feeding you back?”

If not, maybe it’s time to plant something new.

With steady hands and open heart
