There’s something ancient in the way we stare into fire. A memory that lives in the bones, not the brain. Fire has been with us since the beginning, warming our homes, cooking our food, protecting us from the dark. But beyond the physical, fire is pure energy. It’s transformation. It’s alchemy.
When I began working with fire intentionally, not just as a comfort but as a ritual tool, something powerful shifted. Fire became a co-creator. A witness. A messenger between me and the universe.
If you’ve ever lit a candle while making a wish, you’ve already started this dance. But there is so much more you can do, and I want to share the ways I’ve worked with fire to manifest, release, and call in what my soul longs for.
Fire as a Sacred Element
In many spiritual traditions, fire is the element of action, will, and transformation. It represents the spark of creation, the flame of passion, and the energy of movement. Where water soothes and earth grounds, fire ignites. It asks: What are you ready to burn away? And what are you ready to fuel?
Fire doesn’t just destroy. It clears. It transforms. It makes space for something new.
When used with intention, fire rituals can help you:
- Release old patterns or limiting beliefs
- Set powerful intentions with energetic charge
- Connect with your inner fire and creative power
- Mark transitions and new beginnings
My Go-To Fire Rituals
Here are a few of my favorite ways to work with fire, simple, soulful, and wildly effective.
1. The Release Ritual: Letting It Burn
This is one of the most cleansing rituals I know.
What you need:
- A fireproof bowl or cauldron
- Matches or a lighter
- Small strips of paper
- A candle or small fire
How to do it:
Write down anything you are ready to let go of — fears, attachments, old stories, habits, energy from a past relationship, even your own self-doubt. Be honest. No one will read it.
Light your fire, take a deep breath, and one by one, burn each strip of paper. Watch the flame consume it. As the smoke rises, say out loud (or silently):
I release this. It no longer lives in me.
You’ll feel lighter. Cleaner. Freer.
2. The Manifestation Flame: Charging Your Intentions
Fire can also amplify. It’s an excellent ally for manifestation.
What you need:
- A candle (color chosen intentionally, like green for abundance, pink for love, white for clarity)
- A journal or piece of paper
- Herbs or oils (optional)
- Quiet space
How to do it:
Light the candle and take a few deep breaths. Then write down your intention in present tense, as if it already exists. For example:
I am creating a thriving, heart-led business that supports others and lights me up.
Speak your intention aloud. Focus on the flame while imagining the energy of your desire being carried into the universe. Feel it. Breathe it in.
Let the candle burn for a while (never leave it unattended). You can return to this ritual each day for a week or a full moon cycle.
3. Fire and the Full Moon: A Double Dose of Power
The full moon is a time of release, and fire is the perfect element to support that process.
Each full moon, I gather my kids, some friends, or even just myself, and we write down what we’re shedding and what we’re grateful for. We burn it under the moonlight, with music playing and bare feet in the earth. It’s raw, real, and beautiful.
Fire reminds us that even the heaviest things can be turned to ash.
Tips for Sacred Fire Work
- Set clear intention. Fire listens. Speak from your heart
- Use fire safely. Always have a fireproof container and stay mindful
- Combine with other elements. Add herbs, incense, or salt to deepen your ritual
- Be present. Don’t rush. Fire rituals are not about checking a box, they’re about energetic alignment
Fire and Tarot: A Magical Combination
I often light a candle before I pull cards. It clears the space, sets the energy, and invites clarity. Sometimes, I’ll even pull a card and burn the qualities I want to release from that archetype, or charge a card I want to embody more deeply.
For example, if I draw the Eight of Swords and realize I’m holding myself back with fear, I’ll write that fear down and offer it to the flame. Then I’ll light a new candle and call in the energy of the Queen of Wands, bold, free, alive.
Fire makes the reading more embodied. It makes it sacred.
Final Flickers of Wisdom
If you’re craving change, feeling stuck, or sensing something stirring inside you, light a flame.
Sit with it. Speak to it. Let it remind you that you, too, are fire.
You can destroy what no longer serves. You can ignite what longs to be born. You can be your own sacred blaze.
And when in doubt, just light a candle and whisper your truth to the flame. Fire is listening.
With warmth, sparks, and reverence
