Chakras: The Seven Energy Centers and How to Bring Them Into Balance

By Isabella Vale – Founder of Tarot Masters

One of the most beautiful truths I’ve learned on this wild, human journey is that we are more than just bodies. We are energy. We are vibration. We are light.

When I began working with chakras, the ancient system of energy centers that run along the spine, I felt like someone handed me a map of my own inner world. Suddenly, the emotions I’d been carrying, the heaviness I felt in certain moments, and even physical aches began to make sense.

Balancing your chakras is not about chasing perfection. It’s about tuning your instrument. It’s about flow, presence, and connection within yourself and with the world around you.

So if you’ve ever felt off without knowing why, or craved deeper harmony in your mind, body, and soul, this guide is for you.

Let’s take a walk through the seven chakras, from root to crown.

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Location: Base of the spine
Element: Earth
Color: Red
Theme: Safety, survival, grounding

Your root chakra is your foundation. It’s where your sense of stability lives, not just physical security, but emotional and energetic rootedness.

When balanced: You feel grounded, supported, calm, and present.
When blocked: You may feel anxious, fearful, disconnected from your body, or unstable financially or emotionally.

How to balance it:

  • Walk barefoot on the earth
  • Eat root vegetables and nourishing foods
  • Practice grounding breathwork
  • Use affirmations like “I am safe. I am supported.”

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

Location: Lower abdomen, below the navel
Element: Water
Color: Orange
Theme: Creativity, pleasure, emotions

This chakra is your center of sensuality, flow, and emotional connection. It’s where you hold joy, grief, desire, and creation.

When balanced: You feel inspired, emotionally open, and in touch with your pleasure.
When blocked: You may feel creatively blocked, emotionally numb, or disconnected from intimacy.

How to balance it:

  • Dance freely and fluidly
  • Express emotions through art or journaling
  • Connect with water (swimming, baths, ocean dips)
  • Use affirmations like “I allow myself to feel and express freely.”

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

Location: Upper abdomen
Element: Fire
Color: Yellow
Theme: Confidence, willpower, personal identity

This is your power center, where you hold your sense of self and the fire to follow your purpose.

When balanced: You feel confident, empowered, and decisive.
When blocked: You might experience self-doubt, fatigue, or difficulty making decisions.

How to balance it:

  • Spend time in sunlight
  • Practice core-strengthening yoga poses
  • Set small, achievable goals
  • Use affirmations like “I am strong. I trust myself.”

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Location: Center of the chest
Element: Air
Color: Green (or sometimes pink)
Theme: Love, compassion, connection

Ah, the heart. This is where it all softens. Your heart chakra governs your ability to give and receive love, not just romantic love, but self-love, divine love, and forgiveness.

When balanced: You feel open, compassionate, and connected to others.
When blocked: You may feel lonely, bitter, closed off, or overly self-sacrificing.

How to balance it:

  • Practice loving-kindness meditation
  • Write a forgiveness letter (even if you don’t send it)
  • Connect with nature and fresh air
  • Use affirmations like “I am love. I am loved.”

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Location: Throat
Element: Ether
Color: Blue
Theme: Communication, expression, truth

This chakra is all about speaking, not just out loud, but also living your truth with clarity and courage.

When balanced: You express yourself clearly and listen deeply.
When blocked: You might struggle with communication, hold back your truth, or feel misunderstood.

How to balance it:

  • Sing, chant, or speak your truth out loud
  • Journal without filtering
  • Drink herbal teas to soothe the throat
  • Use affirmations like “My voice matters. I speak with honesty.”

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Location: Between the eyebrows
Element: Light
Color: Indigo
Theme: Intuition, insight, inner vision

This is your inner compass, the chakra of inner knowing, clarity, and spiritual awareness.

When balanced: You trust your intuition and see things clearly.
When blocked: You might feel mentally foggy, disconnected from your instincts, or overly analytical.

How to balance it:

  • Meditate daily (even 5 minutes helps)
  • Limit screen time
  • Listen to your inner nudges
  • Use affirmations like “I trust what I know. My intuition guides me.”

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Location: Top of the head
Element: Spirit
Color: Violet or white
Theme: Spiritual connection, divine wisdom, unity

This is the bridge to the infinite, your connection to Source, to the universe, to the divine spark within you.

When balanced: You feel at peace, connected, and open to higher wisdom.
When blocked: You may feel spiritually disconnected, cynical, or closed off to mystery.

How to balance it:

  • Spend time in silence or prayer
  • Practice gratitude
  • Engage in spiritual study or reflection
  • Use affirmations like “I am connected to something greater. I am light.”

Final Thoughts from My Mat

Working with chakras has been one of the most loving, transformational practices of my life. It’s not about fixing what’s broken. It’s about gently tuning what’s already there, and allowing energy to move freely.

Some days, I focus on just one chakra. Other times, I do a full-body scan to feel where things are sticky or soft. And often, I pair my tarot readings with chakra awareness, asking the cards what part of me needs nurturing.

There’s no right or wrong way. Just listen. Your body and energy are always whispering. The more you attune, the more harmonious everything becomes, inside and out.

With light spiraling through every center,
