What the Wands Mean to Me in a Reading

By Isabella Vale, Founder of Tarot Masters

The Wands have always felt like a fire I both feared and needed. They are the part of the deck that dances. That moves fast. That speaks of desire, of momentum, of the holy spark that turns ideas into action.

When I pull Wands cards in a reading, I feel a different kind of energy stir. It’s not quiet or reflective like the Cups. It’s not grounded like the Pentacles. It’s not cutting like the Swords. It’s the suit that asks, “Are you ready to begin?”

And it doesn’t wait for your answer.

When I See a Wand

To me, the Wands represent not just creativity and passion, but the wild life force behind it all. They show up when you’re on the edge of something. A decision. A risk. A rise. They burn away excuses and ask for courage, even if your knees are shaking.

Wands cards are often about purpose. Not the kind you write in a career goal sheet, but the kind that lives in your belly. The kind that wakes you up at 3 a.m. and whispers, “What if you actually did it?”

When Wands show up in a reading, I listen closely. They’re not just pointing to action. They’re pointing to alignment.

A Few Cards I See Differently

Two of Wands – The Sacred Pause Before the Leap

Traditionally, this is a card about planning. But for me, the Two of Wands is more about vision than logistics. It’s that moment when the dream has taken shape but hasn’t been lived yet. The liminal space between who you are and who you could be.

When this card appears, I often ask
“What version of your life is calling to you right now?”
It’s less about making a plan and more about daring to imagine something bigger.

Seven of Wands – Boundaries as Devotion

This card often gets read as conflict or needing to defend your position. But I see it as something more personal. It’s about protecting your energy. Your fire. Your time.

When the Seven of Wands shows up, I don’t always see battle. Sometimes I see sacred refusal. The act of saying no so you can keep saying yes to what matters.

Page of Wands – Permission to Begin Again

This card is one of my favorites. The Page of Wands is curiosity. Movement. The courage to start, even if you don’t know where it will lead. It’s often read as a sign of potential, and I agree. But more than that, it’s a reminder that you are allowed to begin, even if you’re unsure.

When someone feels stuck, this card is like a match being struck in the dark.

Fire as a Teacher

The Wands are the suit of fire. And fire doesn’t ask if you’re ready. It just shows you what’s possible when you follow what lights you up.

But like all elements, fire requires respect. It can warm you or burn you. Wands remind us to channel that energy. To focus it. To honor what ignites us, but not let it consume us.

They teach us that we’re allowed to want things. Deeply. Boldly. They invite us to act, not just wish.

Final Thoughts From My Reading Table

The Wands are the part of the tarot that remind me I’m alive. That I’m here for a reason. That passion is not something to apologize for.

They ask you to listen to the drumbeat in your chest. The yes that scares you. The dream that hasn’t let go of you, even when you tried to be practical.

So when Wands show up, I take a deep breath. I know I’m about to ask someone a question that matters.
What are you ready to set into motion?

With warmth and wild courage
